The Diamond Building is the new landmark home for the Engineering Department at Sheffield University.
The building has a unique dynamic appearance, formed by the use of shaped aluminium fins that span diagonally across the facades. The facade comprises a standard unitised curtain walling system featuring triple glazed units and solid insulated, ceramic-frit glass panels.
The feature fins are visible both internally and externally, and are finished with polyester powder coating and anodised aluminium respectively. The fins are rolled and mitred at the corner intersection to complete the architect’s aesthetic, and are connected onto the unitised panels with fixings that allow for building movement.
